“Plenty of juice in that price”: Form analysts quite keen on resuming Neasham/Archibald runner

SENTrack form analysts Mick Gannon and Dean Watling are both quite keen on Don Diego De Vega at Randwick this weekend.
The Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained import resumes in the Benchmark-88 over 1600m on Saturday after a promising debut campaign in Australia which yielded a win at Randwick over 1800m in July.
Gannon can see the Lope De Vega gelding taking care of this field, especially if he shows any improvement from last preparation.
“I think Don Diego De Vega is clearly the horse to beat,” Gannon said on The Weekend Preview on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“Looks to have come back bigger, better and stronger this time.
“He deserves to be on top and if he makes any improvement at all he’ll be winning and winning this well.
“I’ve got him marked $2.50 without any improvement so if you factor that improvement in you could get him down to $2.20 and he becomes a bet.
“Miss You Ella is a danger but she just doesn’t like winning races. Given she is a danger it makes you more confident with Don Diego De Vega.”
Watling is of a similar belief, rating Don Diego De Vega’s current Sportsbet price of $2.50 as juicy, especially considering the stable’s great first-up record.
“I think there’s plenty of juice in that price, I could see this horse starting sub $2,” said Watling.
“The Neasham and Archibald camp’s first-up strike rate over the last year has been phenomenal. They strike at 19 per cent with a profit on turnover of +11.
“When you look at that horse and look at the danger, which is probably the stablemate (Vego Magnifico) who won well first-up and we’ve see their horses regress after first-up wins.
“I think it’s one of the better bets on the program and I think you can chime in at the price as it could start sub $2.”
Don Diego De Vega will be ridden by Jason Collett in Race 5 which is set for 3:25pm AEDT on Saturday.
