"Played on my mind": Could Los Angeles be Zac Stubblety-Cook's last Olympics?
Los Angeles could be the last Olympics for Australian Olympic swimmer Zac Stubblety-Cook as he reveals he will weigh up whether to pursue an appearance at the Brisbane Olympics after 2028.
The Brisbane-born swimmer has represented Australia at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, winning gold in 2021 and silver in 2024.
However, Stubblety-Cook is 26-years-old, meaning he would be 33 when qualifying for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, Stubblety-Cook spoke to SEN 1170 Mornings about whether he would push for an Olympics in his hometown.
“(Brisbane’s) definitely played on my mind,” Stubblety-Cook said.
“For me, 2032, I’d be 33. For a lot of athletes that’s a bit of a stretch so for me LA is probably where I’ll have a really serious consideration about what’s next and why I’m swimming… and making sure I have my priorities right in and out of the pool.
“I just want to be able to have the freedom over the next three years to be like ‘Okay, I’ll give it this one last push or pull out and be content regardless.’”

Before 2028 however, Stubblety-Cook first has the Australian Open Championships in Brisbane, and then the World Aquatic Championships in Singapore.
“Obviously we have World Championships in Singapore and Aussie nationals back in Brisbane at my home pool which will be nice,” Stubblety-Cook commented.
“Singapore World Championships will probably look like a fresher team but an exciting one nonetheless. I think there's a lot of young athletes coming through this year and coming through for this next quadrant.”
The Australian Open Championships will be held in April, before the Singapore World Championships in July.
