The New Zealand Breakers have landed one of the NBL’s most accomplished executives, appointing Troy Georgiu as the club’s new chief executive.
Georgiu brings more than 20 years of NBL experience to Auckland, forged largely at the Perth Wildcats — the competition’s most successful franchise.
He will oversee all commercial and business operations at the Breakers, while Dillon Boucher continues in his role as President of Basketball Operations, retaining responsibility for all on-court performance.
Georgiu joined the Wildcats in 2002, spending a decade as commercial manager before leading the club as CEO from 2017 to 2022. During his tenure, Perth became the gold standard in the NBL, combining sustained success on the court with strong commercial growth.

Breakers chairman Marc Mitchell said Georgiu stood out following a global search.
“Troy understands how winning, brand and community fit together,” Mitchell said.
“Perth set the standard in the NBL and Troy was a big part of that. Our ambition is to make the Breakers the leading sporting brand in New Zealand, and he’s the right person to lead that charge.”
Georgiu said the opportunity was one he couldn’t pass up.
“The Breakers are one of the most important clubs in New Zealand sport,” he said.
“The focus now is building a high-performance organisation off the court to match our ambition on it — growing the fan base and competing for championships every season."
