Titans front rower Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has declared he will enter the open market on November 1 despite not wanting to walk out on his club.
The 25-year-old, who becomes a free agent in eight days’ time, is expected to be on the receiving end of multiple offers in the $1.5 million-per-year range.
The Perth Bears, Melbourne Storm, Dragons and Bulldogs are all expected to launch bids to land his signature.
“An NRL career is so short – you’ve got to be smart and use your brain,” Fa’asuamaleaui told News Corp.
“I’m not going to beat around the bush, but yeah, I’ll be on the open market,” he said. “When November ticks around, it will feel a bit weird.
“I do really want to stay at the Titans but I want to see things improve around the place and that’s (by) winning. I have tried to do that for five years, to try to win, and there have been a lot of ups and downs.
“I want to see improvements throughout the whole club and see it heading in a good direction. I love the Titans and I want to win there and change (the club).
“I would love to stay but an NRL career is so short. I played three years at the Storm and am going into my sixth season at the Titans – how many more years do I have in me?
“As much as my heart is at the Titans, you’ve got to be smart too, you have to always use your brain.
“The reason I went to the Titans in the first place was to win and do something that hasn’t been done before. I don’t want to walk out of that place without a win, and obviously that’s a premiership. I know it’s easy to say but it’s going to take a lot of hard work.”
Fa’asuamaleaui’s current deal expires in 2033 but he is able to activate a get-out clause to depart the Gold Coast at the end of 2026.
