Johns: The vulnerability the Storm can exploit against Brisbane
Matty Johns has outlined the main reason why he thinks the Melbourne Storm will claim the Provan-Summons Trophy on Sunday night.
The clash proves to be one of the more interesting clashes that we have had in recent grand final history, with both teams having plenty of star power across the field.
One of the more mouth-watering clashes to get excited about is between the two spines.
For the Broncos, they will have Reece Walsh, Ben Hunt, Adam Reynolds and Cory Paix in the starting spine, while the Storm’s spine will feature Ryan Papenhuyzen, Cameron Munster, Jahrome Hughes and Harry Grant.
While both sides have seen their spines perform brilliantly during this finals campaign, the 1997 Premiership player thinks that the experience of Melbourne’s big-name players in these big matches will see them get across the line.
“I’m still (going with) the Storm,” Johns declared on SEN 1170’s The Run Home with Joel and Fletch.
“They’ve got the big game know how.
“Like the key men in that side are very even keeled and they’re consistent and you know what you are going to get from them.
“Blokes like Munster, while he is a loose unit, in big games you can depend on him.
“Harry Grant, blokes like that, they speak for themselves.
“That spine, if there is one area where I reckon Brisbane could have a vulnerability, it's through the middle as the game goes on.
“And that Storm spine, I’ve never seen a spine who can take apart an opposition like them.
“So yeah, I’m still pro-Storm.”
The Grand Final between the Melbourne Storm and the Brisbane Broncos takes place on October 5.
SEN will have live coverage of the match through its radio network and the SEN app, with fans also having the choice to listen to either a Storm or Broncos call alongside a neutral option.
Kick off takes place at 7:30pm AEDT.
