Who could have predicted this?
It has been an unbelievable run for the Brisbane Broncos, who have had a finals run for the ages in Michael Maguire's first season as coach.
After storming into the top four, the Broncos had to travel to the nation’s capital to play the minor premiers, the Canberra Raiders.
In that match, they trailed by 16 points with 15 minutes to go, which they managed to overcome to send the game into extra time, which they won thanks to a Ben Hunt field goal.
Following that, they had to host the four-time defending champions, the Penrith Panthers, in the preliminary final, where they overcame a 14-point deficit, which was sealed with an Adam Reynolds conversion at the death.
And in the Grand Final, they completed the hat-trick of double-digit comeback wins with the Broncos coming back from 10 points down at the 45-minute mark with a performance of the ages from Reece Walsh.
After what they have done in the last four weeks, it left Joel Caine in awe of what the Broncos have been able to do.
“They were beaten by the Raiders, they were beaten three times,” Caine exclaimed on SEN League.
“The Panthers had them cooked, Melbourne Storm had them cooked.
“It is one of the most remarkable finals runs you’ll ever see.”
Scott Sattler would be in agreement with Caine, noting that he can’t believe how the Melbourne Storm were dismantled by the Bronx.
“We said before the game, and we are apparently meant to be experts,” Sattler added.
“We know nothing.
“Because we said before the game, if they get to a lead, there’s no way in the world that the Melbourne Storm are letting them back into the game.
“They treated the Melbourne Storm in the second half like a team that was playing in the bottom four.
“They had that much disrespect for them that they took the sword to them, and the Melbourne Storm had no answer.”
This win now marks the Broncos' seventh premiership in the club's history.
