Voss: "Couldn't give a tinker's cuss" about R360
SEN’s Andrew Voss has rubbished the new R360 competition and believes it will fail due to an inability to engage audiences.
R360 is a new rugby union competition that will begin in October 2026. The format will see teams from London, Miami, Tokyo, Dubai, Boston, Cape Town, Lisbon and Madrid play in events around the world.
Players will be drafted in July 2026 to their franchises but will not have to reside in their franchise location and will own their individual profile to maximise their earnings.
Rugby league stars such as Zac Lomax and Ryan Papenhuyzen have been heavily linked to the new venture.
Voss has no issue with players pursuing the lucrative breakaway competition but insists the competition will have little global impact and relevance.
“There are reports that as many as 10 rugby league players will be headed off to R360,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“If the mail is right, Lomax has played his last game for Parramatta despite having a contract until 2028.
“Did you get excited when you read about the competition? I’ve got to say I don’t give a tinker’s cuss.
“When I read the rules and the format, I got less interested than I was before.
“If I was a rugby union person, I would not be interested in this competition.
“(Will I) be watching South Sydney’s Jye Gray play for Madrid? Would they become my team?
“Would people in Spain be happy that they are getting Jye Gray? There are just so many questions.”
2025 Dally M Medallist James Tedesco told SEN that R360 was on everyone’s lips at the Dally M Awards on Wednesday night.
“Everyone was talking about asking about what it is,” Tedesco said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“It’d be interesting to see what actually ends up happening there.
“Maybe in four years at the end of my career, I might go over.”
