The 'huge decision' Manly must make for 2026
After 11 seasons of service with his boyhood club, could Tom Trbojevic be on his way from the Manly Sea-Eagles at the end of next season?
The 2021 Dally M Medallist has been contemplating his future beyond his current contract, which ends in 2026.
It has been reported by multiple sources that Trbojevic has approached various Super League clubs about playing in England in 2027, as he would rather play overseas than for a rival NRL club.
If the Sea-Eagles were to lose him following the end of next season, Matt White believed that it would signify the issues that the club is having after missing finals this season.
“If that’s the case, Manly have some major issues,” White said on SEN 1170’s Mornings.
“Now, Tom Trbojevic is contracted until the end of 2026 as far as I can see…and then open to doing whatever he wants for 2027.
“And there have been quite a few reports about a move overseas that was picking up speed.”
Jimmy Smith would also react to the bombshell report, thinking that Tom’s potential exit may result in the other Trbojevic boys, Jake and Ben, leaving their boyhood club and force Manly officials to pick either them or coach Anthony Seibold.
“This is going to hit hard, if indeed it is true,” Smith said on SEN 1170’s Afternoons.
“Does it feel that obvious that it's either a Tom Trbojevic or let's extend it, Trbojevic et al, because let’s face it, Jake and Tom are powerful voices within that club, even with Daly Cherry-Evans there because of that local element.
“Do we make the presumption that (it is) we don’t want the coach? Do we make that presumption?
“So now, Tony Mestrov and Scott Penn have huge decisions to make.”
Alongside the news regarding the middle Trbojevic brother contract situation, it has also been reported that NSW coach Laurie Daley has chosen to reject an offer to join Seibold’s coaching staff for next season as he focuses on his role with NSWRL.
