Next Round of the PFL Just a Day Away: Community, Comebacks and a Cracking Matchup on SEN
The next round of the Perth Football League is just a day away, and footy fans are gearing up for another big weekend. This week on Mornings with Mark Duffield, listeners were treated to a special guest: Perth football legend and tireless volunteer, Rod Philp from the Willetton Football Club.
Rod is a shining example of the spirit that keeps community footy alive. A proud recipient of the Order of Australia, Rod spoke with Duff about what it meant to receive such a prestigious honour.
“It was a tremendous moment,” Rod said. “But the real reward is being part of a footy club and watching people grow. The best thing is seeing the girls and guys develop. Everyone is equal. We all come from different walks of life — it’s all about comradeship.”
Rod’s words are a timely reminder of why local football matters, especially as clubs across Perth prepare for another crucial weekend of matches.
On the field, Bullcreek Leeming will be desperate to bounce back after a 61-point loss to Wembley. Their opponents, North Beach, are in a similar boat after a 42-point defeat to University in Round 3. With both sides chasing redemption, this shapes as a fiery contest — and for Bullcreek Leeming, the chance to notch their first win of the 2025 season.
In the Women’s competition, Wembley currently sit a game clear on top, with Curtin Uni Wesley, Baldivis, and Melville hot on their heels. North Fremantle holds fifth spot, followed by University and North Beach. Warnbro and Bullcreek Leeming are still hunting for their first win and will be eager to get on the board this weekend.
Over in the Men’s A Grade, Ocean Ridge and North Beach remain unbeaten and have opened up a one-game buffer at the top of the ladder. Their clash in Round 8 on June 7 is already shaping up as a must-watch top-of-the-table blockbuster.
But before then, don’t miss this week’s SEN Match of the Round: Bullcreek Leeming v North Beach A Grade Women.
Stream it live via the SEN app or at SEN.com.au — and while you’re there, make sure to catch Rod Philp’s full chat with Duff. It’s a brilliant listen and a tribute to the power of sport to bring people together and why its so important to be apart of a local footy club.
