The team that Lowery ‘couldn’t be any more impressed’ with

NBL legend Damon Lowery has been amazed by Melbourne United’s start to the season, which sees them sit on top of the ladder.
While the start of the NBL season has been somewhat staggered, with the Southeast Melbourne Phoenix having played two games compared to the New Zealand Breakers, who have played five, United have quickly established themselves as the team to catch in NBL26.
Despite losing Matthew Dellavedova to the Sydney Kings, Marcus Lee to the Cairns Taipans and Jack White to Europe during the off-season, Melbourne has started the season undefeated, having won their first four games.
Following these performances, it has left the NBL commentator in awe of the next man approach that the team has taken with import signings in centre Jesse Edwards, and guards in Milton Doyle and Tyson Walker playing their roles alongside young guns Finn Delany and Dash Daniels, providing plenty of depth.
“I couldn’t be more impressed with Melbourne United,” Lowery told Kane Cornes and Sam Edmund on SEN’s Whateley.
“They are an institution, they are a brand. It don’t matter who lines up for this team; they just know how to play and get the job done.
“No Chris Goulding, who hasn’t played a game all season. Shae Ili got a hamstring complaint, so he’s out.
“But yet, they’ve still got Jesse Edwards, and he’s a gargoyle. He’s in my all-pterodactyl team, Sam.
"He’s from the Netherlands, I don’t think we have had any of those (in the NBL).
“Milton Doyle is ballin’, Tyson Walker man, I’m telling you they have got so much depth.
“Finn Delany and my favourite Dash Daniels, the young 17-year-old, is out there showing grown men a thing or two.”
Melbourne United will look to continue their perfect start to the NBL26 season when they play the Cairns Taipans on Sunday afternoon at John Cain Arena.
Tip-off takes place at 4:30pm AEDT.
