"Blow everyone out": Can Angel Capital win the Memsie?

Plenty of punters were left disappointed by Angel Capital’s first-up run in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.
Despite jumping as the $2.60 favourite, the Yulong Investments-owned stallion finished third, going down to Ninja by 1.2 lengths.
While RSN form analyst Trav Noonan admitted that the five-year-old’s run was poor from a betting perspective, he admitted that the son of Harry Angel’s performance was actually decent when you strip back all the pizzazz surrounding Angel Capital.
“Just isolating the performance, I don't think there's anything wrong with his run. If you take away the reputation, the expectation on him from a winning perspective, if you isolate just the performance, it's a good run first-up,” Trav told RSN’s Correct Weight.
“He has screeched home. His last 600m was 32:95 which was the best of the race. His last 200m was also the best of the race at 11:50.”
In fact, Trav believes that the Chris Waller-trained horse could very well win the Group 1 Memsie Stakes second-up across 1400m.
“He'll be improved on this going second-up into the Memsie Stakes at 1400m. I wouldn't put it past him winning a race like that,” stated Trav.
“He's definitely capable, at his best, of going to the rolling five-year average of what a horse needs to produce to win a Memsie Stakes at Weight-For-Age from a ratings perspective.
“I wouldn't put it past him to win a Memsie Stakes and blow everyone out when he's not favourite.”
Continuing from that claim, the respected analyst explained he doesn’t believe that Angel Capital is a sprinter.
And if it were him who owned the horse, then he would be racing him across 1600m, targeting a Group 1 Epsom Handicap.
“I’m not sold he’s a 1200m horse. If this horse ran in the early 2000s, he wouldn’t be pigeonholed as a 1200m or 1400m horse (due to The Everest), he would have been tested at the mile, for sure,” Trav admitted.
“If he was mine, I'd test him at the mile this campaign. The race I would be looking at is the Epsom.
“I reckon he'd be better suited going up in distance than trying to convert him into a 1200m horse.”
Trav’s brother Nick couldn’t agree with his sentiment though.
Nick exclaimed that Angel Capital is not an A-grade quality horse, and he won’t be backing the stallion anytime soon.
“If he was a proper A-grader, he wins that race. I just don't think he is, I think he's just a B-grader,” Nick stated.
“I'm off him, he's not getting any of my money anytime soon… I'll just be taking him on wherever he goes.”
If Angel Capital is to win the Memsie Stakes on August 29, he will need to get past the Doncaster Mile winner Sheza Alibi.
Sheza Alibi tops the market at $2.10 with Sportsbet, while Jimmysstar ($5.50) and Angel Capital ($7) are behind her in the odds.
