McIlroy to play Australian Open for first time since 2014
Rory McIlroy is locked in to play at the Australian Open for 2025 and 2026.
The five-time major champion, who clinched his first Masters title last month, is set to be the headline act at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in December.
World No. 2 McIlroy says he can’t wait to return down under after pledging his commitment for the next two years with the 2026 edition to be played at Kingston Heath.
"I’m proud to be committing to the Australian Open for the next two years, especially with it being played on the world-class Melbourne Sandbelt, somewhere I've always wanted to play professionally,” McIlroy said via Golf Australia.
"The success of the Australian Open is important for the global game, and I’m incredibly confident it will thrive again this year, especially with it being staged in one of the world’s great sporting cities and on two of the finest golf courses in the world over the next two years: The Royal Melbourne Golf Club and Kingston Heath Golf Club.
“Melbourne is known for being one of the world’s great sporting cities and I can’t wait to be part of that atmosphere and soak in everything it has to offer, both on and off the course.”
Northern Irishman McIlroy claimed the Stonehaven Cup by beating Adam Scott at Royal Sydney in 2013 and last competed on these shores in the 2014 Cup at The Australian.
Tee off for the 2025 Australian Open at Royal Melbourne is on December 4.
