Matt Reid’s best bets for Friday racing at Launceston (18/04)
Matt Reid • April 18th, 2025 12:00 pm

The Tasmanian Turf Club in Launceston host their final meeting of the season with the annual Good Friday program.
It's a solid nine-race card for what has become one of the better wagering programs of the year.
The rail is +9m 1200m-W/Post; +7m Remainder with a slight chance of some showers on race day.
Best Bet
Race 8 – 5. Zewinna
After being Group 3 placed during the Summer, Zewinna gets her chance to win here in open company in a small field. The consistent mare always puts herself in the right spot in her races, and I suspect she follows Romary in the run with the first crack at running her down. I have enormous respect for First Accused, who brings the A1 weight-for-age form, but with 52.5kg, Zewinna appears weighted to win.
Next Best
Race 9 – 4. In the Ocean
In the Ocean appears for the first time since an enormous run in defeat on Launceston Cup Day. His record at the track and distance is superb, a four-time winner from six starts, and he looks very well-weighted under the conditions of this race. He’s another who I think is drawn to stalk the speed and can prove too strong in the run to the line.
Best Value
Race 5 – 6. Li’l Hail Mary
I thought the first-up run of Li’l Hail Mary was better than it looked. With the way that race was run, her late sectionals suggest she’s come back in good order. There looks to be much more pressure in this race, with the likes of Wheeling, Flying Billie and Kireinna Marubrah set to ensure the pace is genuine. That being the case, I’m looking for a horse to settle midfield and make a run down the middle. Li’l Hail Mary ticks those boxes and I’m confident she’ll be an each-way price.
