Friday night racing returns to Launceston to run the Finance Brokers Tasmanian St Leger program.
The $50,000 staying event is the feature on a good nine-race program, the second thoroughbred meeting on the Apple Isle for the week.
The rail is +9m 1200m-W/Post; +7m Remainder, with fine weather forecast.

Race 4 – 4. Uncle’s Tip
Not for the first time this campaign, Uncle’s Tip was a tough watch last start, unable to get clear late, she was arguably a good thing beaten by Geegeehailstorm who built momentum out wider on the track. Connections opt to claim here with Jabez Johnstone, meaning she’ll get in with 52kg. She looks like a horse that in time will progress to much better than Class 1 company, and with any luck at all, it looks like her race.

Race 9 – 1. Always A Winner
The consistent Always A Winner settled much further back than the norm last time, but showed some versatility to run into the placings, despite covering ground in the run. I like the wide draw here, as it will enable Chloe Wells to roll forward, even if the horse is slowly away, and that task has been made easier by the scratching of Steel Mist. He’s got a great record at the T&D which I think he will improve on in the last of the night.

Race 7 – 6. Geegee Jet By
The second quaddie leg is a deep race despite the small field, but I have Geegee Jet By much shorter in the market. He was only fair resuming in Hobart off a freshen, but I think he’s a better horse in Launceston, and he drops 2.5kg from that run for the rise in grade. He’s a horse that is generally best early in his campaign, and this looks like a bit of a target race with visiting jockey Jackie Beriman taking the ride.
