Kiwi shot putter Tom Walsh has become the most decorated male athlete in the history of the World Indoor Athletics Championships.
Defending his crown from Nanjing in 2025, the Cantabrian went into the Toruń competition unsure if he’d be in gold medal contention, however that changed once he got into his rhythm.
“I knew I was an outside chance.” Walsh told Sport Nation's Scotty & Izzy.
“The goal was to get a medal, but I smelt a little bit of blood in the water halfway through the comp and I thought this is there for the taking.”
Walsh can now call himself a four-time World Athletics Indoor Champion, going back-to-back in 2025 and 2026 after previously winning in 2016 and 2018.
The 34-year-old’s medal tally at the World Indoor Athletic Championships now stands at a male competition record of seven, adding to his silver medal in 2024 to go along with his two bronzes from 2014 and 2022.
The Olympic medalist took time out of his pub session to chat to Sport Nation’s Scotty and Izzy about his impressive feat.
