Lachlan Galvin set to join Bulldogs immediately
Lachlan Galvin is set to sign a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs effective immediately, closing the curtain on one of the ugliest contract sagas in recent memory.
The Sydney Morning Herald's Danny Weidler is reporting that Galvin has revealed his desire to play for the Bulldogs under coach Cameron Ciraldo, and assistant coach Luke Vella who is a close friend and former high school teacher of Galvin's.
Last week, the Wests Tigers elected to grant Galvin permission to leave effective immediately with the Bulldogs and Parramatta Eels firming as the clear suitors from the outset.
Galvin will join the ladder-leading Bulldogs effective immediately on a deal worth $750,000 a season; the Bulldogs securing a release by paying a $165,000 transfer fee to the Wests Tigers, bringing an end to his tumultuous Wests Tigers career.
Galvin could pull on the blue and white as early as Round 14 in a massive clash against the Eels on the King's Birthday.
Bulldogs' supremo Phil Gould has denied on numerous occasions his club having any interest in signing Galvin, despite calling the 19-year-old "the best teenage footballer I've ever seen".
The key question now is Galvin's position at the Bulldogs.
Off-contract halfback Toby Sexton has impressed thus far in 2025, however, with the club highly unlikely to drop Matt Burton, a Galvin-Burton halves partnership would see Sexton as the unlucky man out.
Another rumoured option is moving Matt Burton to fullback with Galvin filling the five-eighth jersey, meaning Connor Tracey would be the man to drop out of the starting line-up.
"The reports are, and everyone was made aware that he was available the player to miss out in the current spine, I'm hearing is Connor Tracey," Justin Horo revealed on SEN 1170 Crunchtime.
"That's the mail I was getting last week. That the plan was Toby Sexton will stay in the halves... Lachlan Galvin to six, and Matt Burton moves back to fullback.
"(Tracey) and Toby Sexton have been the two players that have been talked about for the last 12 months. 12 months is when the Bulldogs sort of showed signs that they were a top eight team... those questions turned from can they become a top four team to now can they win the minor premiership.
"With Lachlan Galvin, and all the rumours were around Toby Sexton, I think you have to go Galvin at seven and give that a crack first, unfortunately at the expense of Toby Sexton."
"You get an opportunity to get a guy like Lachlan Galvin who we all think has a whole other level in front of him and the projection to be... a million-dollar player, probably going to get him for unders, sounds like they're going to get him for 650-750,000, and that's the right price for Lachlan Galvin."
The deal is yet to be confirmed by the club, but an announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.
