Newcastle Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga has reportedly formally applied to change his international allegiance to New Zealand.
The application comes just a few weeks after the ARL confirmed players representing tier one Test nations would now be eligible to play State of Origin - a reversal of a rule which had previously deterred him from making the switch.
Ponga has long signalled his desire to play for the NZ Kiwis, and according to Australia's Code Sports, has now made that intention official, with the International Rugby League board to review his application - although its approval is considered a formality.

The Queensland representative was born in Australia but both of his parents are New Zealanders, with his Maori heritage coming from his father's side.
He represented the Māori side in last year's All Stars match and was clear when asked whether he would be open to a switch to the Kiwis last month.
"It is awesome for the game," said Ponga, who has represented Australia at the 2019 Nines tournament.
“It’s gonna make it better for us, for sure. Any decision that they made is for that reason.
Pending approval, Ponga would be available for NZ Kiwis selection in time for October's World Cup.
