It’s been an ideal start for the NZ Warriors in season 2026, and someone who knows a bit about the happenings around Go Media Stadium Mt Smart is former Warriors centre and Sport Nation commentator Blake Ayshford.
Ayshford spoke to Sport Nation's Scotty and Izzy after another eventful weekend in the NRL.
One key to the Warriors’ early success could be put down to the consistent performances from some key players.
“It’s the same people we are talking about.” Ayshford said.
“To be a great team and top of the ladder you can’t have weak links and at the moment everyone is playing their role perfectly.
“But if we are to pinpoint it is those same people.”
A team that’s had a not so hot start to the season is the reigning NRL premier Brisbane Broncos who managed to get back on track in one of the most unlikely ways.
“It’s rugby league, isn't it?," Ayshford jested.
“You’ve got in house fighting, you’ve got ex-players going at the club, the club’s 0-2, the coach is under pressure after winning a premiership and you go to the Melbourne Storm and beat them at AAMI Park.
“I think that’s what they needed, a win against a tough opponent just to set the season off, so I think we’ll see them get back on track here.”
It’s the battle of Ayshford’s former teams at 8pm on Friday when the Warriors host the Wests Tigers, where he will be joined by Sam Hewat in the Sport Nation commentary box.
