Hurricanes make it seven on the trot with last-ball thriller over the Heat
The Hobart Hurricanes are back on top of the BBL|14 table courtesy of a seventh straight victory.
It didn’t come easy as they needed every ball in their run chase against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba, but they got the job done to again replace the Sydney Sixers at the summit.
Batting first, the Heat set a very solid target by making 6/201 thanks to Marnus Labuschagne’s superb knock of 77 (high highest Big Bash score) off 44 deliveries which included eight fours and a pair of sixes.
He was helped by Matt Renshaw who made 40 (off 25) while Tom Alsop added 39 (off 27) after captain Usman Khawaja got his side off to a flying start with 23 from just nine balls.
Nathan Ellis finished with figures of 3/42 for the visitors.

In response the Hurricanes started brilliantly with openers Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen putting on 80 runs for the first wicket.
Player of the Match Jewell would go on to make 76 (off 49) with nine fours and a six while Owen was seeing them like beachballs, crushing 44 off just 20 balls which included six sixes.
Nikhil Chaudhury again chimed in with a crafty middle order knock by making 39 (off 27).
It was those contributions that set up a grandstand finish with the Hurricanes requiring 20 off the last two overs and then 11 off the final over which was bowled by Xavier Bartlett.
The situation then read one run off the final ball as Matthew Wade duly swept a Bartlett full toss over the square leg boundary to give the ‘Canes a big win on the road.
They next meet the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Sunday, a match the Heat will be sweating on provided they beat the Renegades at Marvel Stadium on Saturday. If the Heat do win, they’ll replace the Stars in fourth spot ahead of the Stars-Hurricanes contest which is the last match of the BBL regular season.
It was an action-packed night at the Gabba with an electrical fire in the DJ booth. Thankfully nobody was hurt.
BBL|14 continues on Friday night with the Sydney Smash between the Sixers and Thunder at the SCG from 7:15pm AEDT. Listen to all the action LIVE on SEN.
