How a six month stint in maximum security prison revived former pro surfer's life
Former pro surfer Clint Kimmins is this week’s guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
Hailing from Queensland’s Palm Beach, Kimmins first made an imprint on surfing as a junior, bursting onto the pro junior circuit at 14 before claiming an under-16 world championship.
After a tough home life growing up, Kimmins took the opportunity to finish school at year 10 and begin a life on the road as a pro, with several sponsors backing him including Rip Curl.
Then at 22, everything changed when he was involved in a fight at Tugun Surf Club where Kimmins was charged with unlawful wounding.
That led to him spending six months in a Queensland’s Borallon maximum security prison, which is where he decided to commit fully to his training.
On the inside while doing hard time, Kimmins was determined to turn his life around, and upon his release he began competing as a triathlete.
As well as returning to high level sport, Kimmins became a personal trainer for the rich and famous in Beverley Hills while even ending up on the hit show Bondi Rescue.
He discussed that and much more on this week's episode.
