“Don’t f--- this up”: Kent Jnr praises Zac Lloyd with J-Mac comparison
Guest House won Australia’s richest two-year-old race on Saturday, winning the $5 million Golden Slipper in impressive fashion.
Trained by both Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, the son of Home Affairs extended his impressive record to two wins from four starts, with those two losses being a second in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and a third in the Group 1 Blue Diamond (1200m).
The colt’s co-trainer, Kent Jnr, joined RSN’s Correct Weight to reflect on the race, and was asked whether he believed Guest House could reach the heights of a Slipper triumph in the months leading into the prestigious sprint.
“I think I spoke (on RSN) about (Guest House) being the number one seed in our stable,” Kent Jnr explained.
“So, you're always optimistic that this will be the next (Blue) Diamond horse.
“But they (two-year-olds) have got to keep doing it under pressure, stay sound in training and be good in the mind.
“That's been the trick with this horse, is getting his brain right – he’s always had enormous ability.
“What sets him apart is that he can absorb pressure and keep running. Even in the Blue Diamond after a horrid run, he was the strongest past the line, and you just got that sense that in a Slipper, he'd be there at the finish.
“To answer your question properly, I think, yes, we always hoped that (he would win the Golden Slipper). He's just such a standout two-year-old type and has a magnificent action.”
Speaking on the $5 million race itself, the co-trainer revealed that from the gear changes to his settling position, numerous things worked out well for the bay.
“I think several things worked,” Kent Jnr admitted.
“The cross over noseband was obviously a nice addition.
“I think Zac Lloyd got along with him really well, and he finally settled reasonably well, and wasn't pulling.”
Kent Jnr continued by praising Guest House’s jockey Zac Lloyd, who claimed his fourth Group 1 win ever aboard the son of Home Affairs on Saturday.
In fact, the trainer even stated that Lloyd is right behind Australia’s most accomplished hoop, James McDonald.
“He's a good jockey, that Zac Lloyd," the co-trainer exclaimed.
“I loved what he said post-race – he said, ‘When I got into the straight and counted their backsides, I thought to myself, well, this is just going to win and I said to myself, don't f--- this up!
“He just had to guide him through, and it was a very good to watch… He rode him very well.
“He's just got an air of confidence, Zac Lloyd, and in my opinion, he's right behind J-Mac and still getting better.”
At only 22-years-old, Lloyd has a fantastic future ahead of him.
