Treasurethe Moment's spring is likely over
Emerging star Treasurethe Moment finished third in her Grand Final race on Saturday, placing in the Group 1 Cox Plate.
The four-year-old mare who is owned by Yulong Investments won 10 of her first 12 career starts, including a terrific first-up win this spring in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.
However, after that Group 1 the Matt Laurie trained brown suffered a mild case of colic, and she hasn’t won in her last three starts since.
Yulong Investments COO Sam Fairgay has revealed that Treasurethe Moment will most likely be sent to the paddock, ending her spring carnival.
“We’ll see how she pulls up but the likelihood is she’ll have a break,” Fairgray told RSN’s Correct Weight.
“This was the Grand Final target (Cox Plate); she’s got a lot more racing in her.
“She can have a spell and get some of the nice spring grass and some nice weather – get her set up for the Autumn.”
When reflecting on the potential superstar’s preparation, Fairgray was very pleased with how she performed.
“She had that great run first-up in the Memsie, then had that colic hiccup,” he said.
“Matt (Laurie) all the way through said she’s going well, and she’s come out of it fine.
“Although people may have thought she ran below her best in those couple of runs (in the Feehan and Might And Power), they were different tactical races, and they probably didn’t suit her.
“Whereas yesterday she ran fantastic – back into a race where there’s a bit of speed and she could get back to her usual style of racing.”
If the Cox Plate is Treasurethe Moment’s final run of the spring, then she ends her preparation with one Group 1 victory, two second’s and a place in the Cox Plate.
