Baraqiel has taken out the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m), winning its first ever Group 1.
The Gelding sprinted past Alabama Lass and Arabian Summer in the final 50m to take out the $750,000 race.
SenTrack and RSN’s Miles Pfitzner applauded Baraqiel and winning jockey Ben Allen on a superb run.
“Baraqiel, well it had the saloon run, it popped out,” Pfitzner told RSN’s Saturday Raceday.
“It was just luck in running, whoever had the best run (would win).
“The gap appeared, he took it, he had enough turn of foot from the horse and he exploded.
“A gun ride there from Benny Allen.
“How good are Bennett Racing going at the moment? They’ve just got horse after horse after horse.”
While Baraqiel won in impressive fashion, there were plenty of other rides that caught the attention of Pfitzner.
“Storylines everywhere out of this one!” Pfitzner exclaimed.
“The hard luck stories out of this too, there are a few horses that never ever, ever saw daylight.
“Skybird – no daylight, Oak Hill – enormous through the middle of the pack.
“Niance went wide, had too much ground to make up, you couldn’t win from there – It’s another story out of the race.
“Arabian Summer back to the inside as well, wowee. Alabama Lass probably did it tough.
“If you go and see the aerial or the behind vision, Oak Hill (had) hard luck.
“Skybird, it was doing everything but trying to jump horses.
“You can follow a stack of horses out of this race.”
Winning jockey Ben Allen spoke to Racing.com after the race, in awe of his horses victory.
“It’s unbelievable to get it for these owners,” Allen told Racing.com.
“What a story! What a horse!
“The amount of setbacks, how patient and persistent they’ve had to be with him, it’s unbelievable.”
When Allen was asked if he was laughing after the gap between Alabama Lass and Arabian Summer opened up in front of him, he admitted that he was actually upset with the Moonee Vally track.
“To be honest, I wasn’t laughing in the run,” admitted Allen.
“I was absolutely cursing, I was saying, ‘I hate fricken races at the Valley, these group 1’s (are) so difficult.’
“I was lucky I had the right horse, he’s just got that dog in him.”
