Beiwacht has taken out the Group 1 three-year-old Golden Rose.
Wodeton and Tempted finished in the placings, coming second and third respectively.
The Chris Waller trained Beiwacht was at $9 odds (on Sportsbet) prior to the race and ran incredibly.
The Group 1 winner lead for the entire race and ended up winning by 4.14 lengths, with none of his opposition being able to run him down.
βWe knew he was gonna lead,β David Taggart told SENTrackβs Saturday Trackside.
βHe raced forward in the lead up when Tempted beat him in The Run To The Rose.
βHe was just too good.
βI was worried about the 1400m, but he saw that out.
βDoes he come to Melbourne now for the (Caulfield) Guineas?
βThatβs a soft lead over the mile at Caulfield.
βAfter that youβve got to go to the Guineas.β
Tempted who was the $2.90 favourite (on Sportsbet) overcame a wide barrier early, but couldnβt run down Beiwacht.
Taggart exclaimed that it was a waste of a beautiful ride by Ethan Brown from the filly.
βTempted, what a waste of a good ride that was,β Taggart said.
βShe mustβve raced a little bit flat second-up.
βI thought sheβd improve.β
When asked if Wodeton was overrated for only having one win from eight starts, Taggart emphasised that the colt is still an elite horse.
βThis horse has run second in a Golden Slipper,β Taggart said.
βHeβs got multiple Group 1 placings.
βI know heβs the winner of only one race, heβd have to be a frustrating animal, but mate heβs won $1.3 million now.
βHeβs never far off.β
Wodeton is currently the second favourite for the Caulfield Guineas at $6 (on Sportsbet) while Beiwacht is at $11.
