"Too good": Beiwacht dominates in the Golden Rose
Beiwacht has taken out the Group 1 three-year-old Golden Rose.
Wodeton and Tempted finished in the placings, coming second and third respectively.
The Chris Waller trained Beiwacht was at $9 odds (on Sportsbet) prior to the race and ran incredibly.
The Group 1 winner lead for the entire race and ended up winning by 4.14 lengths, with none of his opposition being able to run him down.
β€œWe knew he was gonna lead,” David Taggart told SENTrack’s Saturday Trackside.
β€œHe raced forward in the lead up when Tempted beat him in The Run To The Rose.
β€œHe was just too good.
β€œI was worried about the 1400m, but he saw that out.
β€œDoes he come to Melbourne now for the (Caulfield) Guineas?
β€œThat’s a soft lead over the mile at Caulfield.
β€œAfter that you’ve got to go to the Guineas.”
Tempted who was the $2.90 favourite (on Sportsbet) overcame a wide barrier early, but couldn’t run down Beiwacht.
Taggart exclaimed that it was a waste of a beautiful ride by Ethan Brown from the filly.
β€œTempted, what a waste of a good ride that was,” Taggart said.
β€œShe must’ve raced a little bit flat second-up.
β€œI thought she’d improve.”
When asked if Wodeton was overrated for only having one win from eight starts, Taggart emphasised that the colt is still an elite horse.
β€œThis horse has run second in a Golden Slipper,” Taggart said.
β€œHe’s got multiple Group 1 placings.
β€œI know he’s the winner of only one race, he’d have to be a frustrating animal, but mate he’s won $1.3 million now.
β€œHe’s never far off.”
Wodeton is currently the second favourite for the Caulfield Guineas at $6 (on Sportsbet) while Beiwacht is at $11.
