Caleb Clarke will return home from South Africa after scans confirmed he ruptured a shoulder tendon during Wednesday’s match (NZ time) against the Sharks.
The All Blacks winger will require surgery, with his return to play timeline to be confirmed once the procedure is complete.
Head coach Dave Rennie said no replacement would be called into the squad at this stage, with the team comfortable with its current outside backs cover.
“We are all feeling for Caleb and really sorry to see his Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour come to an early end,” Rennie said.
Clarke said he was “gutted” to be leaving but remained positive about his recovery.
“I’ve loved my time here so much,” he said. “I’m staying positive and excited about what’s ahead, so will make the most of my recovery to make sure I’m at my best when I’m ready to return to rugby.”
