David Gately has provided his best bets for Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day and Randwick for the Spring Champion Stakes this Saturday.
See Gator's Game Plan below:
BET OF THE DAY (Melbourne)
MOONEE VALLEY - Race 9 No.1 - OBSERVER - Wide/ Good fresh vs older horses then 1300m-to-1600m in G1 Guineas and no luck vital stage and may well have tested a star in Autumn Boy there. It looks the A-form!
BET OF THE DAY (Sydney)
RANDWICK - Race 4 No.9 - POINT AND SHOOT - Genuine excuses first two this prep then good in Silver Eagle last week when slow out and covered ground. Yes 1600m. Weighted to win 52kg! Can he jump with them???
Group 1 analysis
Moonee Valley: Race 10 - G1 WS COX PLATE - WFA - 2040m
2 - ANTINO - Best run in the race in G1 Turnbull for mine when wide/ working. He is well overdue to be given every chance in a race! Thinking modest tempo, saved for one-run it may be advantage him.
6 - VIA SISTINA - Kept closing in the Turnbull (last 200m was 5/100ths off Sir Delius) and ran very similar race in that last year before the unbelievable Cox Plate win by 8L smashing Winx’s track record. Won’t get same (insane) tempo but, the one to beat.
9 - NEPOTISM - No guide fresh. Did little 2nd-up but was on-pace/ fast race. Positive signs in Guineas with limited luck and with serious question marks on Aeliana / Treasure … Can see him running very well out to 2040m! Best blow-out ??
7 - TREASURETHE MOMENT - Brilliant fresh. Good chase 2nd-up off set-back when month off. Solid latest but expected more.
8 - AELIANA - Didn’t quicken in Turnbull but warmed-up late.. That tells me she’s looking for 2400m now (the distance of her fabulous ATC Derby win).
5 - GLOBE - Finally an easy lead latest and he became a G1 / WFA winner. It’s not like he fell in either… He was stronger than Teasurethe Moment and Buckaroo over the line.
Randwick: Race 8 - G1 Spring Champion Stks - 3YO SW - 2000m
1 - ATTICA - Back/ Forced wide in Dulcify yet let rip for excellent win out to 1600m. Draws wide again but have to think 2000m will suit him.
2 - SHANGRI LA BOY - Easy maiden win then jumped to 1800m in Gloaming and led/ won well again beating Flying Orchid 3.8L, that 3yo was 3.1L off Attica prior so on that measure… Ties in nicely.
6 - FEDERALIST - Didnt quicken in Dulcify but that last 100m was lovely and he looks desperate for the 2000m here. Best roughie $18 ??
11 - WITHIN THE LAW - Looked gone against the A-grade last week but she rallied and was so brave! She did all that despite bleeding one-nostril too. Also draws out. She is a ripper!!
14 - SHEEZA DIVA - Best closer in on-pace dominated Gloaming and she was also 1400m-to-1800m there… Must have claims at odds too.
13 - THE PEARLS - Has to go in exotics on same form-lines.
