Fox returns to Royal Queensland's fairways with confidence after extended break

Ryan Fox has been enjoying a rare stretch of family time - much of it spent acting as a “charter skipper” for his fishing-mad five-year-old - while still finding time for practice rounds and the odd charity or corporate hit.
But the break is over, and the long-awaited Australian circuit begins this week at Royal Queensland with the Australian PGA Championship, where Fox makes his return to tournament golf.
“I think there'll be some rust there. I mean it’ll be two months since I played a tournament.” he told Sport Nation Mornings.
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting back into it and feeling those nerves again, feeling like it means something. As I said, I've been playing well, I've got some confidence to take in there.”
Fox admits he didn't play very well at the tournament in 2022, where he missed the cut and had mentally checked out - but this time, the World No. 41 golfer arrives refreshed and buoyed by one of the proudest achievements of his career.
“The biggest thing was finishing in that top fifty on the FedEx Cup. So that gets me in all the signature events for next year… The last couple of years have been, ‘if I play well I'll get in this. If I don't, I'll play this…’ whereas next year I can circle all the signature events. I'm in three of the four majors already, not in the US Open, as yet.”

The next fortnight counts towards the DP World Tour, and Fox has already mapped out his commitments there.
“The next two weeks count as DP, which is great. I'm gonna play the first two in Dubai at the start of next year. So that gets my minimum number to where it needs to be, which is four.
“But I run out of DP world status at the end of this season, so I need to actually be able to keep a card there this year.”
One unavoidable downside of his PGA Tour schedule is the continued clash with the New Zealand Open.
“Unfortunately it's a no go for me for next year. Pebble Beach and Riviera are the two weeks before the New Zealand Open and then Bay Hill and The Players are the week after… It’s just too hard to make it back.
"I feel really bad about it. It's an event that I really want to win, event I really want to be part of. But, you know, I've also got to take that opportunity on the PGA Tour.”
