Matchweek 1 of the FIFA World Cup 2026â„¢ has wrapped up, with all the stars shining on the biggest stage!
Across the opening week, the world's greatest tournament delivered 74 goals across 24 games, with eight sides all scoring three or more goals to kick off their campaign!
SEN's Team of the Week features a pair of Cabo Verdeans and a pair of Australians after both nations beat the odds to keep unlikely clean sheets against Spain and Turkiye respectively.
Keeper Vozinha earns the starting nod over Australia's Patrick Beach, with Diney Borges and Harry Souttar manning the centre of defence.
German fullbacks Joshua Kimmich and Nathaniel Brown are both called up after their attacking contribution to their 7-1 win over Curacao, with goal scorer and penalty winner Felix Nmecha earning a spot in his World Cup debut.
South Korean midfielder In-Beom Hwang pulled the strings in their win over Czechia, with Sweden's Yasim Ayari's two goals against Tunisia handing him a starting spot.
Hat-trick hero Lionel Messi, Nord Viking Erling Haaland and French stars Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe round out a star-studded attack.
Elijah Just earns a place on the bench after his two goals for New Zealand, as does Sweden's Alexander Isak after three goal involvements. Folarin Balogun rounds out the side after his brace in USA's dominant win against Paraguay.
