'Cry me a river': Alexander unloads on Broncos after fourth straight loss
NRL legend Greg Alexander has unloaded on the Brisbane Broncos after a horror streak has seen them win only one of their last seven games.
The Broncos lost to the Manly Sea Eagles 34-6 on Saturday in their first trip to Brookvale Oval since 2014.
It continues a disappointing run of form for the side, with their only win since April coming against the Bulldogs in Round 8.
In that time, rumours have emerged of player unrest over new coach Michael Maguire’s tough training regime, which he has been known for throughout his career.
SEN 1170 Breakfast host Greg Alexander slammed Broncos’ players, criticising their attitudes if the rumours turn out to be true.
“Don't let me think that the Brisbane players are whinging because Michael Maguire is too hard on them,” Alexander said.
“Cry me a river, you little wusses. If that is true, none of them deserve to be playing NRL.
“I can't believe it's true because I can't believe that experienced NRL players would be bitching and whinging because Michael Maguire keeps them there too long.
“It was interesting to watch Michael Maguire in the post-match press conference… there was obviously a lot that he wanted to say… whenever the camera panned to him on Saturday night, you could almost feel the blood boiling about their performance.
“I don't think I've said it about a team this year. I said… they've turned it up… it’s not a throwaway line. It’s just Brisbane were that bad.
“They’ve won one game in their last seven, and a number of those have been at Suncorp Stadium too… it’s far from a fortress.”
Commentator Andrew Voss highlighted one moment that exemplified the current state of the Broncos.
“Go back and watch the moment where (Payne) Haas fields the kick, reflex catch, runs upfield,” Voss pinpointed.
“This is a bloke backing up from Origin, a front rower, 40m upfield. No teammate goes with him.
“Like where's the effort? Where's that little effort areas?
“Absolutely pointless attack.”
