Corey Parker has taken aim at journalist Paul Crawley for his “outrageous” comments about the Broncos triple injury hit after suggesting it was karma “biting them on the bum”.
Just a week after smashing the Rabbitohs by 46 points, the Broncos were humbled in a 20-2 defeat to Storm last Friday in a clash which also ended Ezra Mam and Selwyn Cobbo’s seasons with Adam Reynolds fighting to be fit for finals.
All three sustained varying hamstring injuries which Crawley said was “karma”.
“The cockiness and arrogance against Souths, I thought there was a bit of karma,” he said on NRL 360. “How does it feel now?
“Their cockiness a week earlier bit them on the bum and made them pull their hamstrings.”
Crawley doubled down on his views in a column.
“This time last week Ezra Mam and Reece Walsh were accused by some (including this columnist) of displaying too much cockiness and not enough respect,” he wrote.
“Now the boot is well and truly on the other foot after the disastrous loss to the Storm in Melbourne.
“While you never want to see any player suffer injury in any game, you’re entitled to question if that was karma.”
Crawley’s comments incensed Parker.
“This caught my eye, Paul Crawley on NRL 360,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“Brisbane dismantled Souths and Crawley’s come out and said there is a cockiness and arrogance about it – for Ezra, Renno and Cobbo, the fact they had done their hamstring because they were laughing arrogantly last week and had a cockiness about them.
“I thought it was outrageous, those comments.
“How do you get the karma fairies to go ‘you’re a bit arrogant last week so I’m taking three hamstrings off you next week’.”
The Broncos are currently sixth on the NRL ladder and 11-9 for the season. The host the Dolphins in a crucial derby this weekend.
