J-Mac: Don’t “bet against” Chris Waller in Caulfield Guineas

The massive three-year-old Caulfield Guineas takes place this Saturday and superstar jockey James McDonald is riding the favourite – Wodeton.
The Chris Waller trained colt is currently $3.90 (on Sportsbet) and has drawn barrier 10 in this Saturday’s feature race at Caulfield.
When McDonald was asked if drawing barrier 10 was good for Wodeton’s chances of winning his second ever race and first Group 1, J-Mac admitted that he is very pleased with the barrier Wodeton drew.
“It’s good, hopefully a couple of emergencies don’t get a run, so barrier 8 would be perfect,” McDonald told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“The horse is in very good form – second in a Golden Slipper, second in a Golden Rose - hopefully he converts here.”
Wodeton’s stablemate Autumn Boy is also in the Guineas and is actually the second favourite at $4 (on Sportsbet).
The son of The Autumn Sun drew barrier 1, meaning both him and Damian Lane (who is riding Autumn Boy) will need luck throughout the race, according to McDonald.
“There’s positive and negatives to both,” J-Mac said.
“Autumn Boy’s gonna need a little bit of luck at some point in time.
“We’re gonna need a little bit of luck probably in the early part of the race.”
1600m is the furthest Wodeton will have ever run in his career and McDonald loves the distance for the bay.
J-Mac had a simple message for anyone doubting Chris Waller on the mile-long decision for Wodeton – don’t bet against Chris.
“I think Chris has pulled the right run there,” McDonald said.
“I think he’s training more like a 7-furlong, miler.
“You wouldn’t bet against Chris – he’s got a great knack of it, he loves the colt - he’s in this race right up into his ears.”
Odds correct when published at 5pm on October 8.
