Almost 50 people have been injured at Liverpool’s Premier League title parade in the city’s centre.
A British man has been arrested after ploughing his car into a crowd of people who were celebrating the Reds' 2024/25 league triumph on Water Street.
It is understood that a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area was arrested by police at the scene. Multiple people surrounded the car as the sickening incident occurred, smashing windows and remonstrating fiercely.
27 patients have been taken to hospital, including two with serious injuries, while 20 people were treated at the scene.
“The crews were met with numerous injured people and four persons trapped under a vehicle,” Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer, Nick Searle, said.
“Our crews rapidly lifted the vehicle (and) removed three adults and one child from beneath and passed them to our ambulance service colleagues.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Football stands together with Liverpool FC and all fans of the club following the horrific incident that has taken place during the trophy parade in the city. From everyone at FIFA, we offer our thoughts and prayers to all those affected.”
