Bigger than Taylor Swift? Cricket fans face Ashes price hike
Cricket fans around Australia are up in arms after ticket prices for the forthcoming Ashes series revealed an enormous price hike.
Australia and England’s rivalry resumes in late November at Optus Stadium in Perth before heading to the Gabba, Adelaide Oval and the MCG before concluding in Sydney at the SCG in January 2026.
It was announced today (Tuesday) that general admission for the next Ashes series will put you $42 out of pocket while an A-reserve seat is priced at $237 – an increase of $96.
Children are not immune to the hikes either with junior tickets doubling in cost to $21.
In spite of the increases and cost of living crisis, Cricket Australia’s Todd Greenberg believes the summer of cricket that is on offer will see Taylor Swift-like demand from fans.
As well as the five Tests against the Poms, October will also see Australia host three one-day internationals and five T20s against India.
“The demand for tickets this summer I think it’s going to be like we have never seen before,” CA chief executive Greenberg said.
“We’ve had twice as many people register for pre-sale opportunities than we had even for last year leading into the Border-Gavaskar trophy (against India).
“People are telling me this will probably be the biggest ticket pre-sale in this country since Taylor Swift so it’s quite phenomenal.
“We’ve got international cricket in 11 cities across 14 venues in every state and territory capital city and we haven’t done that in cricket for more than two decades, so it’s an enormous period of time coming from August right through to March.”
