Big names, big laughs: Scotty & Izzy's greatest on air moments of 2025
After a busy summer of commentating cricket, Scotty Stevenson returns to Sport Nation on January 19 for the 2026 season of Scotty & Izzy.
His fellow early riser Israel Dagg will be back from February 2 – but to get set for what’s to come, let’s take a look back as some of the team’s best on-air moments of 2025.
Guess The Guest
A segment idea brought in to freshen up how an interview could take place during breakfast hours, ‘Guess The Guest’ had Scotty and Izzy racking their brains through a series of yes/no questions to decipher who might be on the line with them.
Big names in New Zealand sport including Dame Val Adams, Sarah Walker, Richie McCaw, Paul Coll. Tom Abercrombie and Sir Gordon Tietjens all played their part.
But the best of the year had to be an in-person appearance by Kiwi rugby league icon Shaun Johnson. Now retired and with a book to promote (ghost written by Sumo), SJ had the guys absolutely fooled.

Producer Alpha
Following the departure of long-time SENZ/Sport Nation producer Sam Hewat, Scotty & Izzy assistant producer Robbie McFarlane donned a new persona: Alpha.
The Alpha strikes when you least expect It, keeping hosts on their toes and honest.
His crowning moment came in December at a time when Izzy Dagg was reflecting on his Spotify Wrapped and danced on camera to his top song of the year – only for it to be pulled right before the big drop – leaving Dagg hanging, and us in tears of laughter.

The Dollar Man
Lima Sopoaga became a cult hero for the show through last year’s NPC season.
Nicknamed ‘The Dollar Man’, the former All Black showed he still has the skills when he kicked the winning penalty goal to clinch the Ranfurly Shield for Waikato in a 23-22 victory over Taranaki.
Sopoaga made regular appearances on the show – but the best came following Waikato’s 25-10 loss to the Stags that saw the Log o’ Wood heading to Southland. It was a moment that Dagg couldn’t resist to wind up his mate with a cheeky voicemail recorded on-air, only for ‘Sops’ to get him back the next day.

Breakfast Bingo
While Scotty usually broadcasts from Sport Nation’s Auckland studio, and Izzy joins from his home, there are those magical days when they’re together in the same studio. On those days, the lads play ‘Breakfast Bingo’.
Back in October, the competition between the pair reached a new level of hilarity.

Ask Me Anything
NZ Warriors CEO Cameron George made himself in available in December for a special in-studio appearance with Scotty and Izzy. During this ‘ask me anything’ session, Wahs Nation sent in their questions to find out about the shape of the club heading into 2026, details around Magic Round, and more.
The full interview is available to watch on Sport Nation’s YouTube channel.
Tune into Scotty & Izzy, 6 to 9am weekdays on Sport Nation, returning January 19. Subscribe to the podcast on Spotify.
