The Hobart Hurricanes found a way to grind out a four-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers on Friday night.
But their victory did come at a cost with their main striker Tim David copping a hamstring injury during the tense yet successful run chase.
The Scorchers batted first at home and after a solid start were put back in their box by Hobart’s bowling attack.
Opener Finn Allen struck 43 off 23 balls while Laurie Evans (27 off 18) and Nick Hobson (29 off 23) made late contributions but the rest struggled.
Rishad Hossain was the pick of the ‘Canes bowlers with 3/33 including the key scalps of Cooper Connolly (6) and Aaron Hardie (9).
Riley Meredith was miserly with 2/19 off his four overs, taking the timely wicket of Mitch Marsh (16) just as he and Allen looked to get motoring.
The reigning BBL champs experienced their fair share of challenges during the run chase.
Openers Mitch Owen (6) and Tim Ward (4) went cheaply, as did Ben McDermott (9), but Nikhil Chaudhary steadied the ship with a composed 34 (off 30).
David stepped up and did some damage in making 42 off 28 before tweaking his hammy while turning for a second run.
He was forced to retire hurt before Macalister Wright (22 off 13) and Chris Jordan (15 off 11) cut into the margin and helped see the ‘Canes home.
Skipper Nathan Ellis came up with the winning runs, hitting Joel Paris for four with just three balls left.
The Hurricanes sit second on the table with a 3-1 record ahead of their next clash with the Melbourne Renegades at home on Monday.
The Scorchers are hovering in fourth having won one from three. They take on the Thunder in Sydney on Tuesday.
