Future GOAT? Why Alcaraz can overtake Novak's Grand Slam record

Novak Djokovic currently has a lead of 17 majors over Carlos Alcaraz.
But if the Spaniard can continue his imperious form for the next decade, then it’s only a matter of time before he can overtake the Serbian for the most majors won in tennis history.
With the 22-year-old becoming the youngest man to ever complete a career Grand Slam following his Australian Open win against Djokovic on Sunday, there is plenty of optimism about how many records he could break.
Having already equalled the likes of Mats Wilander and John McEnroe on seven Grand Slams won and now joining Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi and Rod Laver to achieve the career slam in the Open era, he’s already an all-time great.
And with time on his side, according to The First Serve's Brett Phillips, he could potentially dethrone Djokovic’s crown.
“It might be the early crow, but I’m convinced he is going to have the most (Grand Slam) from what I’m seeing,” Phillips told SEN 1170’s Mornings.
“I mean, Djokovic, 24 majors (and) everything he’s achieved. But, if I’m looking at the competition around Carlos, if we’re looking at the next decade. You know Jannik Sinner is his greatest rival, and there’s a bit of daylight at the moment.
“There is a fair gap (to the rest), and he’s only going to get better. That’s the scary part.
“He’s not even hit his peak yet, and he’s got eyes for the records. He’s the biggest ticket in tennis, and to be doing what he is doing at 23 this year, he’ll turn. Seven majors already, he’s fit and healthy and someone that hates to lose, as we saw in that semi-final against Zverev on Friday.
“He’s the most marketable guy in the game...he's an absolute superstar."
The Spaniard continues his season next week as he heads to the Netherlands for the Rotterdam Open.
