Aussie trio make history as Gunners claim European glory
A trio of Matildas have this morning made history, crowned European champions as Arsenal Women’s Football Club claimed victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

Australian trio Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross become the second, third and fourth Matildas to earn the title of European champions, joining full back Ellie Carpenter and Socceroo Harry Kewell as the only Australians to win the Champions League.
Foord and Catley both played crucial roles within the contest, with Foord attacking off the wing as Catley stood firm in Arsenal’s defensive unit. Cooney-Cross sat as an unused substitute.

Coming off the left, Caitlin Foord had a major chance to break the deadlock in the 11th minute with a glancing header pushing across the face of goal.
Barcelona had the better of the contest with 20 goal attempts, hitting the woodwork on multiple occasions and forcing Arsenal goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar into five saves throughout the contest.
The opening goal arrived in the 74th minute mark, with Arsenal's Beth Mead feeding substitute Stina Blackstenius through on goal, firing across the goalkeeper and finding the bottom right corner to put Arsenal ahead.
The Swede's goal proved enough for the Gunners, with the final whistle handing Arsenal a historic 1-0 victory to secure their second Champions League trophy.
