Auckland FC’s big stage opportunity delivers invaluable benefits

Auckland FC may have fallen short to Tottenham Hotspur at Eden Park, but the occasion was more than just a game.
In front of more than 40,000 fans, Auckland FC tested themselves against the Premier League opposition in a match that provided invaluable lessons for both the club’s established players and emerging talent.
Interim head coach Luke Casserly told Sport Nation’s Scotty & Izzy, “I think it was great for our boys to see that next level. So it's fantastic and gives them stuff that they can think about within their game and stuff that they can aspire to.
“After the game you could see the young boys, they were buzzing that they had that opportunity and they were hanging around in that tunnel a fair bit to catch up with some of the big names from Tottenham.”

The occasion was equally important for Auckland FC’s growing profile as after less than two years into the club’s existence, Eden Park neared capacity, showcasing the rapid rise of the game in Auckland.
“Given the short time that our football club has been around, it's been a cracking ride. It's been great fun and the support that we've got from the community has been unreal.
“I just think it's been an amazing time for football all around. We had the A-League grand final in May, the All-Whites back on the world stage at the World Cup through June and now a club like Spurs out here, so as a football fan it's probably no better time to have been a football fan here in Auckland.”
