Auckland FC appoint Pedro Moreira as head coach

Auckland FC have named Pedro Moreira as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 A-League campaign.
The 51-year-old Portuguese coach replaces Steve Corica, who departed a little over a month ago, and joins the A-League champions with experience across Europe and Asia.
Moreira was most recently in charge of Pakhtakor FC in Uzbekistan, having previously worked as an assistant at FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma alongside Paulo Fonseca.
“Coming in to coach this side in a country that is still developing its love of the beautiful game is a unique opportunity that I can’t wait to get started with,” Moreira said.

“This is a young club, but a highly successful club that has set the bar in terms of performance.”
Moreira’s first competitive match will be against Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli in the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup on August 26, before Auckland FC open their A-League season at home on October 17.
Club owner Bill Foley said Moreira stood out during the search.
“He’s got a wealth of experience, 15 years at a senior level in Europe, 10 years in youth development roles,”
“Pedro is the guy to keep this team right at the top of the A-League and bring more silverware to the city.”
Auckland FC have also confirmed their coaching staff for the new season, with Luke Casserly, Rafael Moreira, Nathan Sherlock and Danny Milosevic joining the refreshed backroom team.
