Ashes villain Stuart Broad has lifted the lid on his advisory role with South Africa as he helps prepare the side in their bid to defeat Australia in the World Test Championship final at Lordâs.
Despite retiring from cricket two years ago, the Englishman, who faced Australia in 40 Ashes Tests through his career, said he could not pass up the opportunity to help.
â(Ashwell Prince) called me a couple of months ago and said, âlook, would you mind giving us a few hours of your time to speak to the guys?â,â Broad told News Corp.
âOf course when you donât play cricket anymore, any chance to come to Lordâs and help any other bowlers â apart from Aussies maybe â is a chance Iâd love to take.
âI said yes within about a second I think.â
Broad retired from cricket after the 2023 Ashes series but remains top of the list when it comes to players to take the most wickets against Australia.
Broad took 604 wickets during his 167-Test career with 153 of them coming against the Aussies.
In terms of what he has been sharing with the Proteas, Broad said: âJust the mindset of getting used to the slope, South Africa havenât played as much here as the Aussies have in recent times.
âItâs important in a big final that you donât take two spells to settle, really ⊠I was quite conscious not to get too technical with guys two days out from a world final.
âIt was about alignment and making sure your action stays strong, (at the) pavilion end it can drag you to bowl too tight to the stumps because of the slope leaning you in.
âAt the nursery end, the slope you can bowl too wide if you donât get your alignment right, so itâs just about making sure the bowlersâ techniques are in a place where they think they can deliver properly.â
