“It did hurt”: Greenburg reflects on financial loss from Perth Test

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenburg has admitted that the revenue loss from the First Ashes Test did hurt the national body's bottom line, resulting in the giving back of several million dollars.
The Test match, which took place at Perth Stadium, would be completed within the space of two days with Travis Head scoring a sensational century within a session to see Australia take a 1-nil lead in the five-match series.
As a result of the early finish, which meant they lost ticket revenue from Days 3 and 4, this would see Cricket Australia lose, according to Greenburg, "millions and millions".
This loss would have also hurt, considering the sport lost $11.3 million in the last financial year.
“It did hurt,” Greenburg declared on SEN’s coverage of the Second Test.
“I’m not going to shy away from the fact that it hurt. Of course, you work in professional sport, you want to win.
“But we had to give back not hundreds of thousands, but we are talking millions and millions back.
“So, look, I’m buoyed by the fact that it was the first time in 104 years that it happened.
“And I’m hoping that it might happen in another 104 years and some other poor bugger has got to do it in 100 years again.”
Day 2 of the Second Test is currently underway with SEN having LIVE coverage of the entire Ashes series, which is available on the SEN app and through its radio network.
