Ariarne Titmus has announced her retirement from all levels of swimming, aged 25.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist took to Instagram to announce the news after 18 years of competing and 10 years representing her country.
“Today you retire from competitive swimming,” Titmus wrote.
“18 years you spent in the pool competing. 10 of those representing your country. You went to two Olympic Games and, even better, you won!!!
“The dreams you had … they all came true. The friends you’ve made … they’re for life. You achieved more than you ever thought you were capable of and you should be so proud.”
Titmus is the current 200m world record holder. She finishes her career aged just 25 with 33 international medals, including eight at the Olympics (four gold, three silver, one bronze).
She also claimed four World Championship golds and seven Commonwealth Games gold medals.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Titmus became the first Aussie since Dawn Fraser to win back-to-back golds in the same event after winning the 400m freestyle over USA’s Katie Ledecky.
