Bosnich: Postecoglou sacking comes as no surprise

Ange Postecoglou needs a break from management, according to Mark Bosnich, after his second stint as an English Premier League manager lasted just 39 days.
The Aussie oversaw just eight matches during which he failed to secure a single victory and the axe fell on him within 17 minutes of the final whistle in Nottingham Forest's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
Renowned for his brutal approach to business, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly stormed out of the game before the statement confirming Postecoglou's fate was released.
His departure should come as no surprise, according to Bosnich.
His departure should come as no surprise, according to Bosnich.
"If he lost heavily yes I did expect this," he said on SEN 1116. "3-0 is 3-0, the crowd started leaving 20 minutes before the end, this did not surprise me at all.
"The team Ange inherited is the antithesis of the style he plays and he didn't have the luxury of time or a transfer window.
"You have to look at who is boss is. A very successful businessman. Ange was his eighth manager in eight years at Forest. We know from that and the way he runs clubs, he doesn't mess around.
"Marinakis didn't have too much pride to say 'enough is enough'.
"It's not good news obviously and the thing now for Ange is where to next?"
It's been a torrid 2025 for Postecoglou who was sacked by Tottenham in May despite guiding the club to victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United.
Including his time with Spurs, he has just one victory to his name in the last 17 matches. So will any other clubs come knocking?
"It's not a good record," Bosnich continued. "Maybe it's time to sit back and have a look at where things are going.
"Right now, the EPL is not the place for him. I expected him to have a sabbatical after Spurs and maybe make a return in January.
"I think he takes a break now and then looks for opportunities in January or the start of next season.
"Other options will arise around Europe. The fact he wont the Europa League will always count in his favour."
With this sacking, he now has the unwanted record of the shortest time in charge of a Premier League side as a permanent manager, having beaten Les Reed's record by just one day.
Reaction has come swiftly since the news of his sacking broke.
Speaking post game, Forest captain Ryan Yates admitted that the news was not a 'massive surprise' considering their form.
"When you’re having such bad results it’s never a massive surprise," he said.
"It’s disappointing for us as players. We can do more, we can do better.
"We need to dust ourselves down really quickly whatever steps the club take we need to be fully behind it. We owe it to the fans to do everything to turn it around."
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca also spoke on the news in his post-game press conference saying that he felt sorry for the Australian.
"I feel really sorry. It's always a shame," Maresca told TNT Sports.
"But we say many times this is a business where you need to win games. For all of us it's the same consequence."
