Travis Head won the Allan Border Medal at the Australian Cricket Awards on Monday night.
The hard-hitting batter claimed the award for the first time by polling 208 votes to beat Josh Hazlewood on 158 and captain Pat Cummins in third on 147.
Steve Smith (105) and Mitch Starc (87) rounded out the top five.
The humble Head admitted he was taken by surprise at being named the Allan Border Medallist.
âIt's been nice to come close and not win it a few times, because this is not my forte,â he said from Sri Lanka with the Aussie Test side preparing for the second Test in Galle this week.
âIt's pretty hard to believe, it's been a good year so very pleased with how the team has gone and very pleased I've been able to fit in somewhat.
âI do a role and I'm lucky that I play a few formats as well so it's been an enjoyable year.â
Head also took out the Menâs ODI Player of the Year while spinner Adam Zampa was named the Menâs T20 Player of the Year.
Glenn Maxwell (Melbourne Stars) and Cooper Connolly (Perth Scorchers) shared the BBL Player of the Tournament award with 18 votes apiece.
Rising star Annabel Sutherland took out her maiden Belinda Clarke Award.
The gun all-rounder, 23, polled 168 votes to beat Ash Gardner (143) who was chasing a third top going in the last four years.
Gardner did claim the Womenâs ODI Player of the Year while Beth Mooney won the Womenâs T20I Player of the Year award.
Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers) and Jess Jonassen (Brisbane Heat) were crowned joint winners of the WBBL Player of the Tournament.
It was Perryâs second win after she claimed the award in 2019.
