“150 km/h minimum”: Aussies tipped to fast-track teen pace sensation

Queensland teen pace sensation Callum Vidler announced himself to Aussie cricket fans with 4/64 in the first innings of the Sheffield Shield final against South Australia.
Playing in just his third First Class match, the 19-year-old had the South Australian batters moving around the crease with his pace and he’d take the key wickets of Henry Hunt, Nathan McSweeney, Alex Carey and Liam Scott.
Having previously starred for Australia in the successful 2024 Under-19 World Cup campaign, SEN Cricket’s Adam White thinks that the young speedster could soon make the jump to the men’s national side.
White also thinks that Vidler could be the second-quickest bowler in Australian domestic cricket, a seriously impressive feat at his age and experience.
“There’s a young guy playing for Queensland, a fast bowler by the name of Callum Vidler,” White said on SEN The Captain’s Run.
“He played in the Australian Under-19 World Cup team. This is like that Luke Hodge ‘super-draft’, everyone is going to be talking about this team in 20 or 30 years because it had (Harry) Dixon), (Sam) Konstas and it also had (Oliver) Peake.
“So Vidler, I would say, and it's a big call here, but I reckon he’s the fastest bowler in Australian cricket outside I think Lance Morris.
“He bowls 150 km/h minimum. He's real quick. But to get four wickets as he did in the first innings in the Shield final, that's really him announcing himself.”
While many also agree that Vidler will one day feature at the international level, White thinks it could be sooner than most expect, tipping Australia to fast-track his progression due to his raw pace.
“I could see him being fast-tracked quite quickly into the Australian setup,” White said.
“How quickly is that? It might still be 12 months away, but he's seriously fast.
“When there's not a lot of fast bowlers around the country at the moment, I see him as a name that a lot of people will know a lot more about very, very soon.”
After Queensland passed South Australia in the third innings at Karen Rolton Oval, Vidler will get his chance to bowl his state to victory in the fourth innings of the Shield final.
