It’s time for Aussie sporting crowds to toughen up
This topic has reared its head over the last week and it's about crowds.
Now, if you pay your way into a stadium or you pay your way into an oval or field, does that give you the opportunity to start booing?
I say, if it's done respectfully, I say yes. I say booing is part of sport
Danielle Collins is one tennis star who is front and centre at the moment. There has been plenty of booing from the Australian fans towards her.
She lost in the final a few years ago to Ash Barty, she's beaten a few players this season, she's been outspoken with how she responded to the booing crowds and that has sparked a huge backlash against her.
I'm for booing, if it's done tastefully.
I say this though - if it comes back across the fence, so if a player or an individual wants to then throw a barb back over the fence, why are we all of a sudden in uproar? If it's allowed for you to go out there and boo, why then when it comes over the other side of the fence that it's all of a sudden an issue? I think it's part of the theatre.
The crowd is somebody, people that actually keep our game alive. They pay their hard earned wage to come and watch their sport. They have the opportunity to boo. But then they want to whinge if it comes back over the fence.
It's time for Aussie crowds to toughen up.
